Americana rock and rollers, TrailerHawk, are set to conquer the Okanagan this week with a string of shows that will take them from Oliver to Kelowna. 

While the name TrailerHawk may be new to you, the names of its members will be much more familiar as they have each played in popular bands like Sons of Freedom, Grapes of Wrath and Matthew Good.

Comprised of Don Binns and Don Short (Sons of Freedom,) Rod Bruno (Matthew Good,) Lanny Hussey (Grapes of Wrath) and Carmen Bruno — the group came to be while bonding over a shared love for old school country and rock and roll.

“I think all of us have this great love affair with outlaw rock bands and country troubadours. We used to just all get together to play around and drink beer, then we started to really dig the sound so we began writing and it went from there,” said guitarist Rod Bruno.

“It really happened all on its own, organically and naturally, there was no preconceived expectations with this band — we all sort of decided we were going to play music that we loved and however it came out, it came out,” added Bruno. 

Known for their rambunctious live sets, the band carries that energy into the studio with them, recording both their first release and most recent release 'live off the floor.'

“We want to remain an organic band, quirks and all without slaving to technology, timers or triggers,” said Bruno. 

“All the instruments are organic, the mistakes and recording nuances are there — we decided to do it that way because that is how all the bands we love of yesteryear did.”  

Their homage to the good ol’ days of country music with their modern-rock flair has garnered the group some impressive success in the United States through radio play and collaborations with stars in the industry — such as producer Colin Linden and singer Charles Esten from the hit TV series ‘Nashville.’

According to Bruno, TrailerHawk is one of the most productive bands the members have been a part of.

“We are writing two or three new songs each and every week — it is just this really great serendipitous coming together of people that has allowed this thing to work very naturally and effortlessly and we are very grateful,” he said. 

When it comes to their mini-tour of the Okanagan, Bruno says the band is ‘a lot more rowdy’ than their recordings may present themselves.

“Our shows are great for the beer drinkers and the hellraisers!” he laughed. 

To gear up for a foot-stomping good time, you can check out TrailerHawk’s latest single “Say Something” along with their 2017 EP Half Up Front on all major streaming platforms. 

The group will sweep through Firehall Brewery in Oliver tonight, the Dream Cafe in Penticton on Wednesday, Summerland’s Okanagan Crush Pad on Thursday before ending off at the OK Corral in Kelowna at 9 p.m. this Friday.
