If you’re travelling east today, you’ll have to plan your trip around the closure of Hwy 3 (the Kootenay Pass).
The highway will be closed in both directions about 27 killometres west of Creston between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
While the road is closed, a detour is available through Nelson and Hwy 3A, but that route relies on ferry travel, which could be delayed due to an increase of traffic.
Crews expect to have the highway open again at 7 p.m., but DriveBC will provide an update at that time if there are any delays.
NowMedia will update this story if the timeline of avalanche control changes.
