Get ready to Turn It Loud, Okanagan rock lovers! The Headpins are gearing up to return to Rock the Lake for their third time and drummer Bernie Aubin says fans can expect a tight and refined set.
“Things will be a little more refined this time around, as our last visit was a bit short notice because we were filling in for Doug and the Slugs with our brand new singer,” said Aubin.

The band’s last visit to RTL marked one of the debut performances with their newest addition, Kat Lawrence, a Kelowna local who has taken over the position of lead singer following the departure of Darby Mills in 2016.
“Since Kat joined everything has been great, it is a different dynamic and we are having a lot of fun,” said Aubin. “She has been with us for three summers now and has the drill down tight.”
2020 Will mark 40 years of The Headpins — a milestone Aubin is quite surprised to have hit.

“If you would have told me back then we’d still be playing in 2019 I would have said ‘not a chance’, I never thought we would last 40 years,” he laughed. “It is a big achievement.”
And while he may be a bit taken aback by the anniversary, Aubin says he just “can’t stop” playing music.
“It is a big therapy for me, I get to go on stage and it is like one big stress release and a lot of fun.”

To commemorate the anniversary, Aubin hopes to take the band on tour as well as hit the studio to record some new tunes for fans. However, RTL goers can expect to hear all the classics at this year’s festival performance.
“We will switch the set up a bit this time of course, but we will play the same music everyone wants to hear and we might also have a little surprise for fans,” he said.

While Aubin couldn’t give us all the juicy details, he did fill us in that something is definitely in the works.
“We just can’t wait to show up in Kelowna, the festival is always the best and has a great crowd, big lights, and a big sound — it is all about having fun and it is going to be just that!”
