Temperature records were broken in Victoria and other Island communities today as an arctic intrusion moves through the region. 

According to Environment Canada data, Victoria, Nanaimo, Qualicum Beach and the Malahat area all saw recording breaking cold temperatures. 

Victoria has a new record of -10.7°C, beating the old record of -9.4°C set in 1963.

Malahat recorded a temperature of -13.4°C, beating -8.4°C in 2007.

The Nanaimo area was close to the old record (-10.3°C set in 1998) with a temperature of -10.4°C.

In Qualicum Beach, the record of -9°C set in 2017 was matched.

This arctic outflow is affecting Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, Fraser Valley and Southern Gulf Islands. Wind chill may potentially reach near -20°C.

Wind chill values will likely moderate Saturday afternoon but wind chill values may remain near -10 to -20 through Sunday morning.
