Pink Shirt Day is coming up, and all across the globe individuals stand together in their pink shirts to help bring awareness about anti-bullying. But, what does this day mean to you?
According to Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), 38% of Canadian males and 30% of Canadian females reported having experienced bullying during their school years. And, the rate of discrimination experienced by students who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans-identified or Queer (LGBTQ) is three times higher than heterosexual youth.
We sat down with a few KelownaNow staff members to discuss bullying and what it means to them.
Bullying comes in all shapes and sizes. Some people may call it drama, abuse, discrimination or harassment. But in reality, each of these labels describes bullying.
If you are a victim of bullying, you have probably felt alone, scared or even helpless. We want to let you know that you’re not alone, and there are people all around the community that are here to help and there is always someone to talk to.

On Wednesday, February 28th, join Lisa Burke at Burke Hair Lounge for the first ever Pink Streak Day event. The salon will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. giving "pink streaks" in support of anti-bullying day. Help bring awareness and make a change in the Kelowna community one pink streak at a time!
