Participants in Sunday’s Cherry Blossom Triathlon couldn’t have asked for better weather.
With the sun shining and temperatures eclipsing 20°C, nearly 200 participants set out to conquer the three-part course.

In the end, it was Jeff Symonds who came out on top in the individual race for the second year.
Not only did Symonds have the top time of the day, but he set a new Cherry Blossom Triathlon record for fasted time, said event organizer Malindi Elmore.
His 59:35 overall time was nearly five minutes faster than the second place time, which belonged to Lincoln Hoel.

Hoel, 15, is the younger brother of well-known local athlete Brock Hoel, who won an international triathlon in Mexico on Friday.
The top female on the day, Adrianne Dargie, came in 16th overall with a time of 1:12:58.

“It’s amazing that we are on year six and it gets better every year,” said Elmore.
“We continue to be happy to support top local triathletes with an early season race, as well as help get new people into the sport.”
