It was an unusual scene at a Kelowna store on Friday as one clerk had to contend with being threatened and robbed.

A 21-year-old Kelowna man has been arrested after robbing House of Knives in the Orchard Park Shopping Centre.

On April 8, 2016 at 9:46 a.m., the Kelowna RCMP were called to the scene of the theft.

According to police, the suspect went behind the counter and stole a large edged weapon.

The suspect allegedly threatened to harm the staff member on site if they called security, but quickly ran out of the mall, towards Cooper Road.

“The suspect, who attempted to conceal his identity in an unusual way, was described to police as having painted his entire face and arms black while wearing all black clothing,” said Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a statement. “It wasn’t too difficult for our investigators, aided by the stores video surveillance footage, to locate, identify and arrest the suspect in the 200 block of Leon Avenue.”

The man was taken into custody without incident and remanded into police custody over the weekend.

He faces potential charges of robbery and fail to comply with a Probation Order.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
