Having been born, raised, and met my wife in Kelowna, I absolutely love the Okanagan. I have two rad kids (10 and 13 years old) and they are at the perfect age to hang out with. We spent 10 years in Alberta, and as soon as we moved back to the Okanagan last year we have been obsessed with filling every moment outdoors enjoying what the valley has to offer.
I'm a full time finishing carpenter but as soon as I drop the tools it's out the door in search of adventure. I'm pretty much trying to spend every second with my kids before they tell their Dad to "take a hike, old man…"
Why do you use Instagram?
I use Instagram to show that Dad's don't have to be boring. I actually started posting to appease my parents constantly asking me to share pictures of what we were up to. But yeah, mostly the first thing. I like the restricting aspects of Instagram as far as photo size/video length. It really pushes creativity to work within a certain medium.
What will people see on your feed?
You will see vibrant photo's of the Okanagan landscape and action shots of me and my family boating, skiing, hiking, sailing, and biking. Most of the posts are something water-related because I'm pretty much obsessed with our lake!
Does your page have a specific style?
I like to enhance the vibrancy and contrast in the posts to highlight the colour and beauty that B.C. has to offer. Most of the videos are shot with a GoPro to give a live action feel and are edited with music of lesser-known underground electronic/indie clips. As a former radio DJ, I learned to carefully choose and edit the music to help with the mood of the videos.
Favourite Instagrammers to follow?
@hellobc has a great collection of vibrant photo's of B.C., and show places you may not know exist in our province. @powdernuts because who doesn't love powder! @fvnkymag has great attitude photos of skate, snowboard, and surf. As a finishing carpenter, I find @woodworkcraft very inspirational. @fuckjerry is just perfectly hilarious. And of course I should say @kelownanow, am I right?
Why do you follow KelownaNow?
I love that you share posts from others around the area. Also, keeps me updated on current events that I would not have known otherwise.
How do you decide on your location for shoots?
I usually don't plan out where to take photo's and or videos. If we're out exploring or playing hard and I see a moment I never want to forget, it gets captured.
Biggest Instagram moment?
When I took my GoPro on a selfie stick and went kneeboarding – that killed my arm, was a blast, and the footage was amazing!
