My name's Jake Dogterom and I'm a 21-year-old landscape photographer based in Kamloops B.C. I am an electrician by trade, but photography is my hobby as well as my passion. Being outside and doing what I love is my definition of an amazing day.

    Why do you use Instagram?

I use Instagram because it's such a vast, creative and supportive community.

What will people see on your feed?

People can always expect to see a different take on some of the landscapes and places they already know and love, as well as the potential to see something completely new.

Do you have a specific style?

I'm not sure what my style is, as I think I'm still trying to figure it out. I find most of my photos have a kind of surrealist element to them. My photos give a mundane environment a new life.

    Favourite Instagram accounts to follow?

Some of my favourite accounts would be @sentinelphotography @jessedriftwood @maxrivephotography @stevint and @jonasfunck. The majority of these accounts showcase landscape photography but they are each unique in their own style and environment. My favourite is @jessedriftwood. His daily stories inspire me to make every day an adventure and to look at my life with a different perspective.

    Why do you follow KamloopsBCNow?

I follow KamloopsBCNow because I love seeing what different ways my friends and peers are viewing the same landscapes. It's a very supportive community that’s based around the account and there are some amazing photos that get shared.

How do you decide on locations for your shoots?

I think some of the best locations I've been to happened by chance. What usually happens is, I get in my vehicle and drive. There have been many spontaneous trips in the last year from Abbotsford to Wells Gray, Jasper National Park and everywhere in between. I've been extremely fortunate to spend some time with amazing individuals.

    Biggest Instagram moment?

My biggest Instagram moment came this past May when I posted a photo of a deer from MacArthur Island in Kamloops. It tripled my usual reach and viewings on a photo. It was amazing that a relatively simple photo resonated with so many people. I think the reason for this was that people saw the beauty and potential of their hometown.

    Favourite hashtags?

I think some of my favourites are just the ones that make me laugh, for example, #fatalframes #illgrammers #justgoshoot #agameoftones #highsnobiety #moodygrams and #instagood.
