Dave is a Kamloops based outdoor and adventure photographer. Driven by a strong passion for the outdoors, he spends much of his free time surrounded by nature with camera in hand. @davemarkelphoto is an ongoing chronicle of that passion.

Why do you use Instagram?

Instagram has allowed me to meet some great people who share the same love of the outdoors as I do. It has also provided some great opportunities.

What will people see on your feed?

People will see shots of the many outdoor spaces in and around Kamloops. They will also see shots from road trips and adventures I may have in the backcountry.

Do you have a specific style?

Guerrilla style without a doubt. Whatever it takes to get the shot I want. Cold, wet, dark. It is all part of the adventure.

Favourite Instagram accounts to follow?

Hmm, this is a tough one since there are so many great photographers out there. @paulzizkaphoto @raycollinsphoto @chrisburkard @davebrosha and @markjinksphoto are just a few.

Why do you follow KamloopsBCNow?

It is nice to be informed about local issues.

How do you decide on the locations for your shoots?

I struggle with this the most and it really does depend on the weather, type of shot I am looking for and how motivated I happen to feel. Mostly, I just need to get into a place and see what catches my eye, the rest just happens.

Biggest Instagram moment?

Having an aurora photo used by the University of Calgary and the European Space Agency to aid in aurora research.
