Breaking News:

This is some breaking news!

  • Sunday Social Connection: @aforagershome

My name is Kelsey Fast and I am the author of the blog A Forager's Home, and the owner of the A Forager's Home Shop. I moved to Kamloops with my husband Matt five years ago, and I am loving every minute of it. For my blog and shop, the main theme is "Grow. Find. Eat. Make" and living here provides no end of topics to write about, or things to make that fall under those categories. When I'm not in the garden, out foraging, or in the kitchen cooking, I'm usually hanging out with my family or teaching piano and singing lessons.

    Why do you use Instagram?

I love using Instagram since it is such a visual platform. I love taking photos and sharing them with the world. There is also a nice community to be found in the gardening/foraging/homesteading type accounts that is really nice to be a part of.

What will people see on your feed?

I post a lot about what I'm growing and foraging. I also feature the products from my shop quite a bit – handmade home decor and jewellery from ethically foraged and responsibly upcycled materials. I also sometimes share the adventures my family goes on, and post about local events and other things going on in the community.

Does your page have a specific style?

I don't have a specific style per se, but I do try to keep a unified look for my feed. I like things vibrant, bright and clean, but I'm an amateur photographer, and I don't always live up to my own standards. I'd like to develop my photography style more in the future.

    Favourite Instagram accounts to follow?

Some favourite accounts to follow are: Roots and Refuge, Melissa Keyser, The Light LaughedVintage Porch, and Minahyawin. There are so many more that I could easily make this list go on forever. I also enjoy following a lot of local businesses – it's nice to have a connection and a bit of a behind the scenes look into what's going on there.

How do you decide on your location for shoots?

I don't really have a specific plan in mind when I'm thinking about where I take my photos. My feed is more lifestyle based, so a lot of it is just wherever I happen to be. My garden gets featured alot, since I spend a lot of time there.

    Biggest Instagram moment?

I feel like a beginner still in the Instagram world so my "big" moments are still small – although I still get very excited about them – but I was approached by a publisher to review a cookbook for them because of what they saw on my Instagram feed, and that was pretty amazing.

    Favourite hashtags?

    Some hashtags I like to follow are: #wildfoodlove #forageandharvest #zerowastehome #growsomethinglovely #gramyourgarden

    Why do you follow KamloopsBCNow?

I enjoy following KamloopsBCNow, because I like to see what is going on in this great city! I like how they feature photos from other local people too. I think that fosters great community.
