Langford City Council has approved $8.5 million in funds for a project that will increase capacity at Starlight Stadium from 6,000 to 10,000 seats.
Photo credit: City of LangfordToronto-based Starlight Investments bought the naming rights for the stadium in August 2021 for $500,000.The expansion is expected to be completed later this year or and will involve the moving of a hydro pole by BC Hydro, who were consulted in the project’s approval.
The stadium is the current home of Pacific FC–the Island’s only professional soccer club–and the Westshore Rebels junior football club of the CJFL, as well as being the headquarters of Rugby Canada.
The field has also played host to a number of international events over its history, most recently welcoming the Canada Women’s National Team Celebration Tour last weekend, which welcomed over 5,500 fans.
Starlight will also play host to the World Women’s Rugby Sevens tournament scheduled for later this month.
