It may not be the most ideal day for a spring opening, but sports fields in Kelowna are officially open for the season.
Players are back on the fields around the city and crews will continue to perform routine field maintenance between now and the fall. The City reminds residents to watch for maintenance closures and to stay off the fields to allow the turf time to repair so players can get back on high-quality fields faster.
Maintenance closures typically take three weeks and during this time, fields require more frequent watering and the occasional light daytime watering to promote seed germination. This maintenance is required to relieve compaction and ensure healthy turf growth to create safe playing conditions for all users.
