The Okanagan Military Tattoo (OMT) has cancelled their seventh annual show as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is one of the many events that have been cancelled in 2020 because of the risk the virus poses, especially in large groups.

The OMT is described on it's website as a "heart-stirring musical extravaganza" that showcases a range of musical talents in a two-hour event with over 500 local, national and international performances in honour of Canadian military and first responders. This year's event is the first show that hasn't gone on as planned since the musical homage began in 2013. 

A Facebook post in mid-April showed that the Tattoo was optimistic about their event continuing despite the pandemic.

"Given the current unprecedented global situation and uncertainties that surround us, it is in the best interests of the Tattoo and our community to cancel the 2020 production," read a statement on the OMT website.

"Although it may seem premature to cancel at this time, a show as large and complex as ours requires plenty of lead time for planning and execution."

They say they've been working with their partners — including the Canadian Armed Forces, Canadian Government, BC Government and City of Vernon — to prepare for their 2021 event on July 24 and 25. 

Tickets purchased for this year's show will be refunded, or can be exchanged for the show in 2021. Complimentary and promotional vouchers will be honoured at the 2021 show. For more information on the 2021 show and ticket sales information, visit their Facebook and Instagram social media pages.
