  • ‘Socially distanced’ Bob Ross exhibition to finally open next month

A highly anticipated Bob Ross exhibition is set to open at the Penticton Art Gallery after being postponed due to the pandemic.

The exhibit, which is the largest exhibition and the first solo exhibition of Ross’ work in Canada, was set to debut on March 21, but will now take place on July 4 to September 13, 2020.

Ross was the host of the popular show The Joy of Painting, and recorded more than 400 episodes between 1982 and 1994.

The Happy Little Accidents exhibition will feature 32 original paintings by the late artist, best known for his upbeat and inspirational quotes and quick painting style.

With COVID-19 restrictions still in place, the gallery has implemented all the necessary protocols for the show, meaning it will be a “socially distanced” event.

“With things being what they are, we have completely reworked our opening reception to conform to all the provincially recommended safety measures to help direct visitors (single file, one way) safely through the exhibition spaces,” the gallery explained.

Visitors can expect the usual signage, one exit and one entrance, hand sanitizer stations a maximum capacity of 50 people and more.

So far, the schedule for the opening day includes some outdoor live music, a live painting show by certified Ross instructor Janette Smith, a community mural and outdoor activities such as a “Bubble Wonders” show.

There is a suggested $5 donation at the event. For more information, click here.
