UPDATE: Canada Post to attempt to resume mail delivery services on Vancouver Island

(Update: Jan. 18, 2024 @ 10:55 am): The delivery service alert for Vancouver Island has been downgraded to yellow after a red alert was issued yesterday.

Canada Post says mail carriers will make every effort deliver today, but there may be delays and they may not reach some addresses because of ongoing icy conditions.

"We encourage customers to clear the ice from their walkways, stairs, and driveways, to ensure safe access to the front door for both their visitors, as well as their mail carriers," Canada Post said.

Canada Post is suspending mail delivery service for Vancouver Island today due to snow and freezing rain.

Delivery will resume once conditions improve, the company said.

Customers are being encouraged to clear the ice from their walkways, stairs and driveways to ensure safe access to the front door when delivery resumes.

According to Environment Canada, 15 to 20 cm of snow has fallen over Vancouver Island, and 15 to 25 cm has fallen over on the Mainland.

Heavy snow is expected to taper off later this afternoon, but may become mixed with rain over Greater Victoria.
