While only cautiously optimistic, BC Wildfire Service's chief fire information officer Kevin Skrepnek said that winds of change may be on the way later this week during today's press briefing. 

"Friday's forecast does show a shift in weather patterns with coastal winds entering the province that will take away smoke from the west coast and possibly the Interior as well," said Skrepnek

“We certainly don’t want people getting complacent. There’s still a real threat out there.”

Coastal winds will certainly help with the lingering smoke covering much of the province, but wind also poses a huge and dangerous challenge to wildfire fighters.

August is typically the hottest and busiest month in B.C. for the wildfire season and Skrepnek said there is still the potential for things to get worse before they get better.

Despite the possible good news, the smoke will likely get worse before it gets better the next couple days according to the smoky sky forecast.

For now, the Smoky Skies Bulletin remains in affect due to smoke conditions.
