  • Skeetchestn Indian Band issues evacuation order

The Skeetchestn Indian Reserve Lands have been evacuated due to the threat of wildfire. The Skeetchestn Indian Band Council issued the order for Reserve #0 at 1:05 p.m. on Friday, August 4th.

Fire information officer Heather Rice said BC Wildfire has seen an increase in fire activity on the south end of the Elephant Hill wildfire, with northerly winds pushing the fire further south toward Highway 1, prompting the evacuation of the reserve.

Rice said the fire is currently burning 17 kilometres west of Savona.

Evacuees are to register with emergency social services at Sandman Centre in Kamloops. The band posted the following copy of the evacuation order on its Facebook page.
