  • Shaq thanks Fort McMurray heroes for helping during wildfire

Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal has offered his thanks to all the first responders dealing with the massive wildfire in Fort McMurray.

O’Neal took to social media to share a video thanking the heroes who helped so many during the tragedy.

“I love you guys, I love Canada and thank you. You guys are real heroes,” said O’Neal.

He then sings a few lines from the Canadian national anthem before the video ends. It has been shared tens of thousands of times and viewed more than a million times as people thank O’Neal for taking the time to thank those who have been battling the blaze.

A few other celebrities have offered their support and given thanks to those fighting the wildfires and first responders helping the evacuees. Vancouver’s Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to ask people to donate to the Canadian Red Cross.

There are still more than 80,000 out of their homes in Northern Alberta as the wildfires rage on. The two wildfires in Fort McMurray have joined and have now formed a wildfire approximately 229,000 hectares in size.

There are 700 firefighters, 26 helicopters, 13 air tankers available and 46 pieces of heavy equipment units working on the Fort McMurray fire alone.
