It's officially sweater season in B.C. as a cold air mass has blanketed several regions across the province.
According to Environment Canada, several record cold temperature marks were eclipsed on Wednesday, with thermometers plummeting well past freezing in multiple locations.
The coldest spot in the province on Wednesday was Clinton, B.C. in the southern Interior where the mercury dipped to a frigid -16 °C.
Environment Canada recorded a total of eight new cold temperature records in B.C. on Wednesday:
- YVR Airport 1.6°C (previous record 2.8°C set in 1937);
- Prince George Area -12.1°C (previous record -9.4°C set in 1950);
- Quesnel Area -8.4°C (previous record -8.3°C set in 1950);
- Clinton Area -14.2°C (previous record -5.0°C set in 2012);
- Puntzi Mountain -11.6°C (previous record -9.1°C set in 2013);
- Mackenzie Area -8.5°C (previous record -5.5°C set in 1990);
- Lytton Area -1.2°C (previous record -0.6 set in 1950);
- Lillooet Area -2.9°C (previous record 0.0 set in 1925);
With this winter weather creeping in, remember that between October 1st and March 31st drivers must obey winter tire and chain signs throughout B.C.
