Two post-secondary institutions in the Okanagan are taking two separate approaches to cannabis on campus.

UBC Okanagan will be allowing recreational cannabis use on campus, in designated smoking areas where cigarettes and vapes are permitted.

The university will continue to prohibit smoking indoors, at bus shelters, in school vehicles, and within 8 metres of doors and air intake.

Okanagan College (OC) is taking a different approach for its ** campuses throughout the Okanagan.

Students will not be allowed to use recreational cannabis on OC property unless it's for medicinal purposes.

While OC is still working out the details, students with medical documentation will be required to present it to school officials before being allowed to toke in designated areas.

Both schools say on campus student residences are governed by their own contracts that have yet to disclose regulations surrounding cannabis.
