The stage is officially set for the winner-takes-all rugby sevens Paris 2024 Qualification Event being hosted at Starlight Stadium in Langford from Aug. 19 – 20.
Fans from the Greater Victoria area will get to cheer on Canada’s Women’s and Men’s Sevens Teams six times for pool play on Saturday, Aug. 19, with the high stakes play-off action set for Sunday, Aug. 20. The tournament’s grand finale on Aug. 20 will see the men’s final at 4:38pm and the women’s final taking place at 5:32pm, with the winners directly qualifying for Paris 2024.
The women’s competition will have five countries competing in one pool. Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines will battle it out with the top two teams following pool play progressing to the final.
While the men’s competition is divided into two pools, with Canada grouped with Barbados, Jamaica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The other pool will feature Mexico, Bermuda and USA. The pools will then cross over for play-offs, with the top two teams from each pool playing in the semi-finals.
Besides the two full days of rugby, fans can expect a BBQ, beer gardens, food trucks and DJs.
