If you live in rural Central Okanagan, you can expect to see Rural Property Tax Notices from the Provincial Government in your mailbox.
Payments are collected by the Province, not the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO), while taxes for the RDCO are included on municipal tax notices and are collected from property owners within the City of Kelowna, City of West Kelowna, District of Lake Country and District of Peachland.
Property owners in the Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West Electoral areas may complete their Home Owner Grant Application, if eligible, and make their tax payment. Payable to the Minister of Finance, taxes can be paid at most financial institutions, through your mortgage agreement, by internet or telephone banking or by mail.
There are also a number of Provincial Government property tax deferment programs to look into.
Those with questions about their Rural Property Tax Notice should contact the Surveyor of Taxes at 1-800-663-7867 and request a transfer to 250-387-0555 or they can go online to the Ministry of Finance website.
Rural property taxes are due July 4 and must be paid by then to avoid penalty.
Property owners in the City of Kelowna, City of West Kelowna, District of Lake Country, and District of Peachland must direct their property tax payments to their local government.
