Prior to the start of last weekend’s HSBC Women’s World Rugby Sevens Series in Langford, Rugby Canada welcomed several local clubs and representatives of six international women’s teams to organize showcases of the game of rugby to Island school-children.

Photo credit: Rugby CanadaCanada’s Senior Women’s Sevens team visited a group of students from both W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Secondary School and ȽÁU, WELṈEW̱ Tribal School last Wednesday afternoon.Several of the teams made visits to local elementary and middle schools to demonstrate the sport to students and teachers and allow them to participate in rugby-based activities.

Participating clubs included national sevens teams from Mexico, Brazil, Fiji, Spain, France and the hosts Canada. Local clubs, such as James Bay Athletic Association, Westshore RFC and Castaway Wanderers Rugby Club also participated in the showcase.

The Community Visit Program aims to introduce the sport to a new generation of athletes, ensuring the growth and development of the sport for years to come.
