  • Revelstoke RCMP catch 17 drunk drivers during March

Revelstoke RCMP had a busy month of March, this time with various drunk drivers in and around the city.

According to police, after the recent legislative change that allowed officers to demand a breath sample without evidence, 17 drivers were caught under the influence of alcohol.

In March, Revelstoke RCMP issued five 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRPs), nine three day IRPs, and three 24-hour driving suspensions.

A three day IRP results in the recipient's vehicle being impounded for those three days, a $200 monetary penalty, and three days of driving probation. A 90 day IRP yields a 90-day driving prohibition, 30-day vehicle impoundment, $500 monetary penalty, and a mandatory referral to remedial programs.

An effort will continue to address drunk drivers around the province with more check stops and investigations into whether drivers are using drugs or drinking alcohol. For more information on Immediate Roadside Prohibition programs, click here.
