Wildfire crews were scrambling to keep up with several blazes that broke out in the Okanagan over the last 36 hours.

By evening, crews had responded to at least eight wildfires in the region, with several more flare ups recorded on the BC Wildfire website.

Not helping matters is the risk of strong evening winds that generally occur after a hot day in the Okanagan.

"Our daily diurnal winds will contribute to breezy conditions at times this afternoon and evening," explained NowMedia Meteorologist Wesla English. 

"We often see breezy conditions in the afternoon or evenings because when the sun sets behind the hills, it further enhances the temperature differences between different parts of the valley."

Crews are currently battling five wildfires outside West Kelowna, one burning near Glenrosa, one near Mount Drought and three fires burning in close proximity to each other near Carrot Mountain. 

Nearly 50 firefighting personnel are battling the Mount Conkle wildfire near Summerland and a wildfire near Brent Road has forced the closure Highway 97 between Peachland and Summerland.

There is little relief on the horizon as temperatures are expected to once again reach 30℃ on Thursday.
