Record-setting temperatures are expected to hit the Okanagan this weekend as the forecast is calling for highs in the mid-30s.

Environment Canada forecasters are calling for a high of 31 C on Saturday, 36 on Sunday and 34 on Monday. If the temperatures reach these scorching degrees, records will most likely fall.

The current record for June 4 in the Kelowna area is 34.4 C, which was set in 1969. The current record for June 5 is 33 C, also set in 1969. On June 6, the record is 34.4 C, which was set in 1970. There will be plenty of sunshine all weekend long, and residents are reminded to cover up and wear sunscreen to help reduce their risk of sun exposure.

In fact, records could be set all around the province as the warm front moves across the region, and exceptionally high temperatures are expected in the B.C. Interior as some regions are expecting highs of 37 C on Sunday.

The hot weather is expected to stick around for the rest of next week, but temperatures will be slightly cooler — in the high 20s — by next Friday.
