(Update: April 12 @ 10:27 am): A man has been arrested after a break-and-enter turned into a standoff in Prince George. 

Parts of Third Avenue, Fourth Avenue and Brunswick Street were closed to the public for around five hours while police were at the scene. 

They were called to a commercial alarm on the 1400 block of Third Avenue at about 4 am. 

When officers responded "within seconds" they found a man attempting to flee on foot. 

He ended up running back into the business.

"Due to safety concerns for our officers, the North District RCMP's Emergency Response Team were called in to assist," police said.

"At approximately 7:30 am, a 42-year-old Prince George man was arrested with the assistance of a Police Dog Service Team." 

The man was taken to hospital with minor wounds but has now been returned to the police. 

He will appear in court remotely on Monday.

The investigation is continuing.

 (Original story: April 12 @ 8 am): Mounties are at the scene of a reported break-in at a downtown property in Prince George. 

The report was made about an address on Third Avenue. 

The North District RCMP Emergency Response Team is assisting. 

Parts of Third Avenue, Fourth Avenue and Brunswick Street are closed to the public. 

Police have requested people stay away while the operation is ongoing. 

They promise to release more information when the incident has concluded.
