RCMP fire investigators are continuing to probe a fire that began early Monday morning in the Carrs Landing area of Lake Country.

According to RCMP, on July 3rd, 2017 shortly after 1 a.m., a Lake Country resident told police that he smelt smoke and exited his home to investigate. He spotted the fire, immediately called the fire department and grabbed tools to battle the blaze, while he awaited the arrival of emergency crews.

“Fire fighters with the Lake Country Volunteer Fire Department worked quickly to build fire guards and get the blaze under control, before it spread into the dry forest or nearby homes,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Fire investigators with both the fire department and the RCMP have assessed the scene, less than a hectare in size. Police believe that the fire quickly spread from its point of origin, which was in the ditch parallel to the east side of the roadway.

“RCMP investigators continue to work closely with investigators with the BC Wildfire Service,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “RCMP have seized evidence from the scene, which suggest that the fire may have been human caused.”
