The latest Provincial Wildfire update provided more information on the fires currently burning throughout the province.

There are 150 fires burning across the province, including 13 new fires that started Saturday, July 29th. They have responded to 820 fires across the province since Saturday, April 1st, burning an estimated 420,000 hectares.

Costs to date for fire response, specific to the BC Wildfire Service since Saturday, April 1st, is estimated at $172.5 million.

Fire officials are expecting conditions to continue to worsen. Strong winds are predicted for Sunday, July 30th, which may challenge fire suppression efforts. There is still no rain expected for southern B.C., and temperatures are expected to increase.

There are 4,000 personnel working across the province to fight the Wildfires, alongside more than 750 out of province personnel, 200 aircraft, and 1,500 contractors.

Emergency Management BC  says there is an estimated 6,000 evacuees as of today, which is expected to change as updates become available.

Fire Officials are not expecting any lightning in the coming week, meaning any fires that do happen in that time are expected to be the result of human activity.

The BC Wildfire Service asks that people remain vigilant and heed the fire bans that are in place, in addition to evacuation orders.
