With many British Columbians packing their cars and hitting the road for May Long Weekend, provincial politicians are reminding the public to drive safe.
With long weekends often making for busier than normal traffic on roads, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Mike Morris, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Todd Stone and Minister of Emergency Preparedness, Naomi Yamamoto put together a video to remind drivers to stay safe on the roads by slowing down and putting away their phones.
“Distracted driving is one of the biggest contributions to deaths and injuries on our roads,” said Minister Morris.
“So please, do yourself and everyone else a favour, don’t drink and drive and keep your eyes off your phone and on the road. We want all B.C. families to enjoy the Victoria Day long weekend and arrive at their destinations safe and sound.”
The provincial government is also advising British Columbians to ensure vehicles are fit for travel and assemble an emergency kit to keep inside.
“A roadside emergency kit is the last thing anyone wants to use but it’s also the best thing to have on hand should the need ever arise,” said Minister Yamamoto.
