  • Prince George to host Douglas fir beetle informational meeting

A community information session about the increased Douglas fir bark beetle population is coming to Prince George.

The open house will be held on Feb. 22, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Edgewood Elementary school.

Community members will be discussing the higher than normal populations of these pests and their ability to infest and kill Douglas fir trees.

Staff from the ministry, City of Prince George and Industrial Forest Services Ltd. will host the meeting and answer any questions from the audience.

An Entomologist will explain the life cycle of the beetle, current management techniques and the trap tree trails that are currently underway in the region.

Information to help mitigate the effects on private property will also be discussed.
