Prince George RCMP was out in full force on Saturday, this time participating in a counter-attack on National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day. 

According to police, after targetting impaired drivers throughout the weekend at various check stops, 12 drivers were handed immediate roadside prohibitions (IRPs). 

Of the 12, six were given 90-day IRPs with a 30-day vehicle impoundment while the other six were only handed three-day IRPs. In addition to the suspensions, two 24-hour driving prohibitions, two 12-hour driving prohibitions, two prohibited driver violations, two drive contrary to license violations, one no driver's license ticket, and one speeding violation were all handed out. 

"There is zero tolerance for those persons that choose to drive while impaired by drugs including alcohol," said Cpl. Craig Douglass.  "There is never an excuse for risking the lives of other road users because you failed to plan properly."

Police will continue to provide enhanced enforcement throughout the rest of this holiday season and into the New Year. If you witness an intoxicated person get behind the wheel or see a vehicle being driven in a dangerous or erratic manner, call 9-1-1 immediately.
