Prince George RCMP needed to be sharp on Tuesday after dealing with a suspect carrying a loaded firearm. 

According to police, just before 8 p.m., two frontline officers were conducting patrols along 5th Avenue, near Tabor Boulevard, when they observed what they believed to be a suspicious vehicle. After attempting to pull the pick-up truck over, the driver of the vehicle didn't stop and fled eastbound on 5th Avenue at a high rate of speed. 

The driver ran a red light in the process, and due to public safety concerns, police did not pursue. 

After 8 p.m., a resident called the police and advised them that a man was taking bikes and other items out of his truck before stashing them in a wooded area of a park on Gillett Street. 

Police located the suspect on a big a short distance away where he was arrested and found to be carrying a loaded firearm. The truck and other items were located and seized as part of the investigation. 

Johnny James Boys, a 26-year-old Prince George residents, was given charges by the BC Prosecution Service. Charges included carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon without a license, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, possession of a firearm for the purpose of transferring it, and failure to report a firearm.  

The investigation is still continuing and further charges are still possible. Boys was held in cust and will appear in court at some point today. Boys is also prohibited from driving and has a history of police involvement in Terrace, Dease Lake, and Alberta.
