  • Premier Horgan to make another visit to wildfire-affected areas

Premier John Horgan will be making another trip to the B.C. Interior to visit wildfire-affected areas.

Horgan and Doug Donaldson, B.C.’s Minister of Forests, will be visiting Kamloops, Cache Creek, Ashcroft and Kelowna on Monday.

"This summer's unprecedented wildfire season has hurt communities and forced people from their homes," Premier Horgan said. "British Columbians are working together to recover and rebuild. Your government is here to help."

Horgan and Donaldson will start in Kamloops at the emergency operations centre at 10 a.m. before visiting and touring the Cache Creek Resilience Centre at 11:45 a.m.

They’ll meet the mayor and council of Cache Creek at 12:30 before moving on to see the Ashcroft First Nation Chief and councillor at 1:30 a.m.

The pair will then cap things off in that area with a tour of the fire damage at 2 p.m.

The last stop on the day trip is Kelowna, where Horgan and Donaldson will get a quick briefing followed by a helicopter tour of the Philpott Road fire around 3:30 p.m.

The premier will meet with British Columbians affected by the fires, as well as local officials, firefighters, emergency responders and First Nation leaders.

"People have been working around the clock to help those whose livelihoods and homes have been impacted by the fires," Horgan said. "It's important for us to hear first-hand about the devastation and the work being done to get people back on their feet."

The B.C. NDP have already extended the wildfire state of emergency, increased payments to evacuees and created a cabinet task force on the fire since taking office in July.
