The B.C. government is seeking the public’s insight into creating and implementing a Poverty Reduction Strategy.

Poverty Reduction Strategy meetings have been scheduled all across the province and it's now our time to speak up. 

On Feb. 17, the public is invited to participate in helping create B.C.'s first ever reduction strategy that is set to be implemented fall 2018.

Despite being one of the wealthiest provinces in the country, 14.8% of the population lives in poverty. To put it numerically, that’s about 678,000 B.C. citizens.

In March 2016, over 100,000 people in B.C. used food banks, and almost a third of them were children.

The approximate cost of a compressive poverty reduction plan will be $3-4 billion annually.

Strategy plans attempt to address themes including the need for welfare, low wage, marginalization, housing, childcare, education and health.

The meeting will be held at the Prince George Native Friendship Centre- Power of Friendship Hall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Refreshments will be served during the meeting.

Supporters will also be available to aid in the public’s participation by providing transportation, child care, disability and health support as well as including a place to secure belongings.
