A police dog helped apprehend a group of suspects after an early morning break and enter in Kamloops.

At about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Kamloops RCMP was called to a break and enter in progress at Starters Liquor Store on Westsyde Road.

A witness saw a man smashing the window, and a second witness reported a group of men running from the scene just before police got there.  

Police were on scene within a few minutes of the report and saw a group of men in the nearby area.

An officer went up to the group and told them they were under arrest, and the group quickly scattered.  

Officers and police dog, Eric, eventually apprehended and identified five men, including three 19-year-olds, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, who are under investigation for their involvement.

One of the 19-year-olds was bitten by the police dog which he was treated for at Royal Inland Hospital, and soon released.

Police are continuing their investigation and ask anyone with information to contact Kamloops RCMP or call Crime Stoppers.
