Otter Point Fire Department
The Otter Point Fire Department in Sooke is organizing an event at the popular Whiffen Spit beach. Registration starts at 11 am, with the cannon start scheduled for 12 pm.
Hundreds of people will run into the icy waters at the same time for a cool and entertaining start to the year.
Firefighters will be providing hot chocolate for swimmers afterward to warm up.
The Peninsula Celebration Society will also be hosting their own event in Sidney, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
They ask people to find them through the beach access at the end of Beacon Avenue at Glass Beach.
