On Friday, Oct. 18, nearly 200 people paid a visit to the Pathways Abilities Society office in Rutland to celebrate Community Inclusion Month. 

The month-long initiative, which takes place each October, recognizes the contributions and potential of those with diversabilities. It also celebrates the families, friends, caregivers, volunteers and community organizations that work hard to offer up equal opportunities.

Pathways have participated in Community Inclusion Month through a number of welcoming events this year including the annual Inclusion Chain and Friday’s 10th Community Inclusion BBQ.

The event welcomed various community partners, including the businesses that offer up workforce opportunities to Pathways clients, to come together and celebrate with a delicious lunch and fun activities.

Cyndy Omand has worked with Pathways for over 30 years and says the BBQ is consistently one of her favourite events to attend. 

“I just love being able to see everyone together,” said Omand. 

“It is really important to have this event to thank our various partners for helping make everyone feel like an equal member of the community and to celebrate acceptance.”

Not only did the event provide a fun afternoon break, but it allowed all of those involved with Pathways to get together for a united and important cause. 

“Having all of us here just shows how connected we all are and how much Kelowna cares about Pathways and the individuals we work with,” said Omand.
