South Korean film Parasite was named best picture at the Oscars awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The movie, which is a caustic critique of class and exploitation, has become the first foreign-language production to win the much-prized award.
First World War flick 1917, which had been spoken of as a favourite, won only technical awards – for sound, visuals and cinematography.
Best actor went to Joaquin Phoenix for his portrayal of the Joker in the eponymous comic book film.
