It was a night for the history books at the Paramount Theatre in Kelowna as they showed their final set of flicks Monday night.

From Mar. 25 until the final night, Paramount Theatre showed a special presentation to commemorate 1949 when they first opened their doors. This included Africa Screams and The Third Man. From 1987, when Paramount Theatre was bought by Landmark Cinemas, Harry and Henderson, Innerspace and Beverly Hills Cop were shown.

They also had brand new movie Batman vs. Superman on the reel for the last week.

On Facebook, one movie goer posted about his last experience at the classic venue.

“For a couple of hours, I felt like I was back in the 80's watching Axel Foley for the first time again, and sadly for the last at the Paramount. . . I'll sure miss watching movies in downtown Kelowna.”

    Tomas Avendano on Facebook.

A UBCO student described multiple nights spent at the Paramount, having seen The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman, and lastly Batman vs. Superman at the theatre.

“I'm fairly new to Kelowna, but some of my fondest movie memories from the last three years are centred around the Paramount,” he wrote. “I didn't know the Paramount as well as many people who might read this, but I do know the place had a hell of a lot more character than any other theatre for miles.

“I can only hope that whatever comes in its place will do the Paramount's legacy justice.”

Another Kelowna resident took to Twitter for a meaningful ode to Paramount.
