More than a dozen members of the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) team, as well as RCMP and people from Coldstream Helicopters, spent their Mother's Day unlike most: finding a snowmobiler whose ride got stuck near Canyon Lakes.

The sledder went out to Little White Mountain on Saturday, and got stuck. He made it back to his truck and drove to town to get tow equipment and returned. He spent the night with his machine in -1ºC temperatures.
His absence led his roommate to call RCMP who forwarded the concern to COSAR. The group of rescuers located his vehicle at Canyon Lakes Trail and Pooley FSR and shortly after found the man near Canyon Lakes with helicopter support.

"The helicopter was able to extricate the subject and bring him back to his vehicle where RCMP and COSAR escorted him out of the area," a COSAR spokesperson said in a release.
COSAR took the opportunity to remind thrill seekers that, with the pandemic in mind, people should be cautious in their activities.

“Please go to AdventureSmart.ca and file a trip plan. And while you’re there, look up the three 'T's,” said COSAR search manager Kevin Birnie.
