  • Now You KNow! – All about the 20th annual and Provincial Fiddling Competition

The Kelowna Old Time Fiddlers will be hosting the 20th Annual and Provincial Fiddling Competition this coming weekend from June 3 to 5 at the Rutland Centennial Hall.

The Old Time Fiddlers are very active in the community, providing entertainment at a large number of events. The Fiddlers are going all out this year for their 20th anniversary bringing in fiddlers from all over B.C. to compete in a vast number of categories.

The event is open to out-of-province fiddlers as they have added a special category to include them. Another interesting category this year is the "Twin Fiddling" competition where the musicians will go head-to-head for a chance to place.

The Fiddlers want the "old style" of fiddling to be preserved, that is why they encourage musicians of all ages to attend the competition. Starting from the "Junior Junior" category which includes ages 9-11 going to the "Golden Years" category for those 65 and up. There are only two contests held annually in B.C., the event in Kelowna and another in Quesnel, making this a must-attend event.

The events festivities will be kicking off Friday night at 7 p.m. at Rutland Centennial Hall with the "All Star" fiddlers concert featuring world-class performers Calvin Vollrath, Daniel Lapp, Mark Sullivan and Keith Hill.

Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, the competition will take place, followed by the presentation of the trophies and cash prizes for the top three contestants.

An added bonus to this already action-filled weekend are the workshops that will be taking place on Sunday at the Rutland Activity Centre. These will be taught by the musicians featured in the "All Star" concert.

A weekend pass will be available at the door for $25 and children under 12 accompanied by an adult will get in for free. The itinerary is available on The Old Time Fiddlers web page as well as onsite.

This event will ensure your weekend is filled with excitement and music!
