  • Now You KNow! About the World Vision Global 6K for Water

Tugboat Bay played host for Kelowna’s very first World Vision Global 6K for Water on Saturday morning, and it was an astounding success.

Close to 700 people swarmed to waterfront park for registration this morning with bright smiles and exuberant energy.

The walking event is held in order to raise awareness and support for World Vision Canada. World Vision is a leading organization whose main goal is to provide safe, clean drinking water for children in developing countries.

As opposed to your typical five-kilometer fundraising walk, the global 6k adds an extra one but for a big reason. The sixth kilometer is added as a way to represent the traveling to and from a water source a family must do in order to have water in their home.

Such a powerful cause showcased the giving and caring nature of our community as locals jumped at the opportunity to help by participating and fundraising. The goal was to reach $250,000 and KelownaNow has received word from organizers that they have surpassed that goal, we are just waiting for a final count.

As a way to give back to those who participated, World Vision had a surprise. Canadian, B.C. born country singer, Dean Brody took to the stage.

A simple performance that consisted of Brody's buttery voice, a guitar and an organ uplifted a tuckered out crowd to new heights.

The combination of beautiful weather, Dean Brody, and an incredible cause proved to be a stellar concoction for an awesome way to spend a Saturday!
