BC has now gone six straight days with no deaths related to COVID-19. 

On Thursday, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced another 14 cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the province's total to 2,694.

A total of 167 people have now died of COVID-19 in BC, however, Dr. Henry was emotional while reporting that 170 died of suspected overdoses in the month of May alone.

"I cannot express how difficult this news was to hear," Henry said, her voice breaking.  

"I share your grief. These are our brothers and sisters, our coworkers … our friends and our community."

Dr. Henry also added that the outbreak related to the Kearl Lake oil sands camp is nearing an end, with no new cases having been connected to that outbreak in some time.

On Wednesday, BC extended its state of emergency for another two weeks while simultaneously announcing it has approved a plan to host the NHL playoffs.

If chosen as a hub city by the league, each team would be required to self isolate from the public for 14-days upon arrival and undergo daily testing for the virus.
