Travellers looking for low-cost flights in Canada won’t have to wait much longer as NewLeaf prepares to resume flight sales in July.

On Thursday, the travel company announced that its low-fare flights are back up for sale and an expanded route map.

Customers will be able to book flights on the NewLeaf Travel Company website to and from a longer list of 12 Canadian cities including Halifax, Moncton, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Kelowna, Kamloops, Fort St. John, Abbotsford and Victoria.

The first flights will take off July 25.

"We are excited to resume operations as people plan their summer vacations," New Leaf CEO Jim Young said. "We know Canadians have been waiting for this service and are delighted to increase their travel options by offering more flights to more destinations, with fares as low as $79."

The Canadian company first announced its low-cost flights in January, but travellers never got the chance to book flights because the airline encountered regulatory hurdles.

In March, the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) completed its review of licensing regulations and determined that, as a reseller of air services, NewLeaf Travel Company is not required to hold an airline licence.

Flights booked through NewLeaf will be operated by Flair Airlines, a licensed Canadian airline based in Kelowna.

"We will absolutely adhere to the CTA's clarified rules for resellers, and have taken the past few months to review our practices to make sure we are in full compliance. We are glad that we took the extra time to plan our re-launch as we wanted to protect consumers and offer them long term business stability," said Young. 

"It has taken a bit of time to get off the ground but we are excited to now bring to Canada the ultra‐low cost business model that has proven successful around the world."

This time around, NewLeaf is offering more destinations like Moncton, Edmonton, Kamloops, Fort St. John and Victoria.

NewLeaf is able to provide lower-cost flights by saving money operating out of airports with lower landing fees, flying direct and offering customers the option to pay for carry-ons, checked baggage and priority boarding.

NewLeaf Travel Company Inc. has its headquarters in Winnipeg while Flair operates out of Kelowna, Calgary and Hamilton.
