2015 was the best year ever for Cineplex Entertainment.

On February 9th the company released its fourth quarter and full year results and the numbers are impressive.
In 2015 Cineplex had a total revenue of $1,370.9 million, while in 2014 the total revenue was $1,234.7 million. Net income increased by 76 per cent and attendance to movies went up 4.6 per cent.
The fourth quarter of 2015 saw major increases as well.
Total revenue increased 22.6 per cent from 2014, which was $332.2 million to $407.4 million in 2015. More than 20 million people went out to watch a movie during the final few months of 2015, compared to 19 million in 2014.
The most staggering number though was the Cineplex’s net income for the fourth quarter. In 2014 the net income was $32.1 million, but in 2015 the net income was $76.8 million. That is a 139.4 per cent increase.

“Adjusted EBITDA was $85.2 million in the fourth quarter, an increase of 35.9%, and $249.8 million for the full year, an increase of 24.3%, compared to the prior year. Box Office, Food Service, Media and Other revenue along with attendance, CPP and BPP all generated new all-time highs,” said Ellis Jacob, President and CEO, Cineplex Entertainment.
The success is due to a number of blockbusters that were released in 2015, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which has become the highest grossing film of all time in North America.
Food Services saw an increase of 11.6 per cent from 2014 to 2015. This is because some VIP cinemas created a speciality food menu.
One thing Cineplex has got going for them is the SCENE loyalty program. The program allows members to collect points towards free food and movies. More than one million new members signed up in 2015, bringing the membership community to 7.3 million people.
The top movies for the fourth quarter included Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Spectre, The Martian, The Hunger Games: MockingJay – Part 2, and Hotel Transylvania 2.

The top movies from 2015 as a whole were Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Minions, and Furious 7.
