A brand new music festival is coming to BC next weekend, showcasing talent from Kelowna to Vancouver. 

Roots to the Boundary festival is taking place in the Kootenays near Greenwood on August 9th and 10th, and promises a weekend in the outdoors with lots of great tunes and natural beauty.

Oliver Glaser, owner of Boundary Brewing Company in Kelowna, is behind the new festival and is excited to let people experience the venue on Jewel Creek Organic Farm.

Glaser says they’re going for a folk vibe, but there will also be some punk rock performances to look forward to. 

Headlining on Friday night is Kelowna’s Elk the Moose. They’ll be joined by bands like Origami Army, Jesse Blashill, Fight or Flea, and Sarah Bee.

Saturday night will see headliners The Corps, a punk band from Vancouver. The lineup for Saturday also includes Mountain Sound, The Pickups, King Scrat, Crowd the Joanna, Greatest Son, and Fableway. 

“I feel like the farm deserves this kind of festival,” says Glaser. “It's this beautiful 142-acre piece of property in the Kootenays and It's so unique and so beautiful.”

Festival attendees will be able to set up camp onsite and explore the area. Glaser says the property has meadows on one side, and a valley on the other, separated by a creek that runs through the middle.

“We want to make it a fun kind of private party out there with two nights of good music and fun vibes," he explains. 

He started planning the festival about three months ago, after enlisting the help of Kelowna musician Jesse Blashill and his farm manager Chris Phelps. 

Not only will people be able to enjoy two nights of live music, they’ll also be able to enjoy all the activities the area has to offer. Jewel Lake Provincial Park and Jewel Resort are nearby, and offer kayaking, hiking, fishing and swimming. 

And, they have activities planned on the farm during the day, including beer and yoga in the garden and axe throwing through Axe Monkeys.

The event won't have a negative impact on the site either. In order to be as sustainable as possible, they are asking people not to bring any single use plastics. Organizers will be providing water, and there will be food and beverages onsite. 

The festival is also placing an importance on local goods and services. Much of the food will come from the farm, and pre-prepared food and beverages will come from local vendors.

If the festival is a hit, Glaser says he would absolutely consider bringing it back for another year.
