California has 17 major wildfires currently burning in varying sizes and containment throughout the state, the most dangerous of which is the Carr Fire burning in Shasta County.

The wildfire began on the afternoon of July 23 from a mechanical failure of a vehicle. Currently, the fire is only 17% contained and has reached 95,368 acres in size (approximately 40,500 hectares).

The conflagration has forced numerous Evacuation Orders and Alerts to be implemented, which has destroyed 874 structures, damaged 175 and is threatening over 5,000 structures. 

There have been six confirmed fatalities of the Carr wildfire, two of which were workers battling the wildfire. 

Jeremy Stoke, a Fire Inspector for the Redding Firefighters, died while battling the Carr fire, as did another worker as confirmed by Cal Fire.

Tom Besenko, Shasta Country Sheriff, confirmed the four citizen fatalities in a press conference held on Sunday.
