  • Nanaimo RCMP warn about spike in break-ins to commercial properties

    The Nanaimo RCMP is advising the public of a recent spike in break and enters to commercial properties. 

    from Jan. 1-8, 2024, twenty-five break and enters have been reported, compared to eight during the same time in 2023. 

    Police said that there have been no reported residential break ins in 2024 so far.

    On Jan. 1, 2024 in the 400 block of Campbell Street, two construction sites were entered. Police said they were alerted and attended the scene before the suspects could make off with power tools.

    The next day, police received two more reports of break ins. Coast Distributors in Lantzville reported having their chain link fence cut, resulting in shovels and brooms being taken

    At 6300 Dover Road, a daycare was also broken into. The front door was smashed, offices rifled through and two computers were taken.

    Break-ins also resulted in power tools, bikes, vehicles and more being stolen.
